Along with “Crazy Days” and celebrations of St. Patrick’s Day at the local ski resorts, Petoskey is consecrated with two iconic restaurants ready to host each and every visitor. City Park Grill and Chandler’s – A Restaurant each offer their own flavor to the eclectic community.
City Park Grill, owned by the Wineguys (Roast & Toast, Palette Bistro) sits as the famous “Annex” of Ernest Hemingway fame where he sat in the second seat at the bar writing about Nick Adams. The solid mahogany bar remains the same after 129 years.
The menu is gracious in choices with assorted family fare and fine dining entrée’s prepared by Executive Chef, John Norman. The seating is ample, and along with the wine list and selection of regional microbrews, the atmosphere is always inviting.
“We have a great kid’s menu,” says Shawn Peterson, Bar and Beverage Manager at City Park. “We actually prepare and cook their food instead of dropping it in a deep-fryer.”
City Park has bands most every weekend! Check the schedule here!
Down the block and around the corner on Howard Street, is Chandler’s – A Restaurant. Executive Chef, Tommy Kaszubowski, accentuates the cozy wood paneled, haute cuisine bistro with a small American Contemporary menu of steaks and seafood. One of the rituals of Chandler’s is the preparation of all things homemade. Sauces, soups, and dressings are all made fresh daily, and based on comments, enjoyed immensely. The risotto and halibut are to die for.
While both establishments welcome walk-ins, reservations are strongly suggested due to their popularity.
For those of you visiting Downtown Petoskey, know that people arrive from all over the world to commune here, and realize that they visit either City Park or Chandlers. And with proper planning, both in the same evening. Bon appetit!
