Economic Development

The City of Petoskey has for many years valued our downtown as an economic asset. The Downtown Management Board (DMB) and Downtown Development Authority (DDA) were created in 1994 to oversee programs and services to the business district, as well as create the ability to utilize tax increment financing. The city has invested in maintaining the downtown streetscape, landscaping, and downtown parks to enhance our community neighborhood’s sense of place, as well as utilized many different economic development tools and incentives over the years, including tax increment financing, façade grants, tax abatements (OPRA), DDA liquor licenses, Social District creation, and many grant programs to assist with the conversion of upper stories for residential units.

The City of Petoskey is also certified as a Redevelopment Ready Community® (RRC) and periodically has downtown locations identified as priority redevelopment sites.
