Downtown Welcomes Newcomers

Contrary to popular belief, things are constantly changing in small-town communities. Whether you’re a stalwart year-round resident or a Petoskey first-timer, we’d love to showcase a few of the new establishments getting situated amongst the beloved businesses and restaurants of Downtown Petoskey.

For those seeking health-focused establishments, Natural Blends Wellness – nestled right between Gypsy Vodka’s High Five Spirits Tasting Room and North Perk Coffee – provides beauty and wellness all-natural, clean ingredient products for everyone. Plus, it’s stocked with botanical and herbal teas, aromatherapy, and a range of CBD items.

Then, there’s Re+Active Physical Therapy and Wellness, which bridges the gap between physical therapy, sports, and exercise performance. Owned and operated by Petoskey native Rob Beigle, Re+Active opened its doors earlier this month, much to Rob’s excitement: “I have always loved the downtown feel, and when this space was made available, I couldn’t resist.” With more than 20 years of orthopedic rehabilitative and sports medicine experience, Rob sought to open a welcoming and motivating physical therapy and training business with a family-type atmosphere, to which he succeeded. “We are a cash-based physical therapy model focusing on one-on-one care working for you – not the insurance company. We also offer semi-private and private training sessions for athletics and adult clientele,” added Rob. Re+Active Physical Therapy and Wellness’ goal is to ensure patients can progress and perform better in the clinic and their daily environments.

Another business that will assist in one’s mental health is The Computer Source of Petoskey. Offering new and refurbished computers, desktop and laptop upgrades, and virus removal, The Computer Source is here to help prevent a human meltdown when technology starts acting up. In January, owner Loveesh Thatai relocated the business to Petoskey from Indian River with positive reception. “I wanted to move my business to Petoskey because it is such a vibrant and welcoming community; I have had great support from my customers since I opened, and the Chamber is so active in supporting local businesses,” shared Thatai. On top of its main offerings, The Computer Source also provides security camera sales and installation, home automation systems, and small business support.

As for retail, filling the space of the recently closed Circus Shop is Apple Blossom Baby and Décor, specializing in children’s apparel, gifts, bedroom décor, accessories, and more. The cute shop officially opens right before the holiday weekend. The staff is busily preparing for new customers, stocking the shelves with adorable hair clips and bows, clothing made from hypoallergenic and eco-friendly materials, blankets, booties, and more.

Also opening this week is Glik’s Men’s, just two doors down from Glik’s Boutique. By dividing men’s and women’s fashions into two distinct locations, the 127-year-old family business will offer the Petoskey community a more comprehensive selection of brands and styles for everyone. “We have had such a great response from the Petoskey shopper over the years that we felt a need to create two store locations: one devoted to men and the other to women,” said Jim Glik, fourth generation Vice President. “We are helping to bring a bigger and better shopping experience to Petoskey. Giving locals and tourists an added reason to come downtown all year to shop.”

And last but not least, The Smoking Dragon has joined the Downtown Petoskey lineup. Helmed by Captain John DarkStar and his wife, Luna LaFae, this establishment features all things medieval, metaphysical, fantasy, and fun! The business carries books, clothing, sci-fi-themed merchandise, statuettes, swords, pocket knives, and metaphysical accessories. It also offers Tarot and tea leaf readings and has a licensed Reiki healer on staff. “What excites us most about being part of the Petoskey community is being able to provide a safe and welcoming place for people to come and be themselves and talk with like-minded people about all the nerdy things life has to offer,” shared Captain John.

So, there you have it – new businesses to explore and patronize in the ever-changing and diversifying Downtown Petoskey shopping district. Check back throughout the year as we highlight other newcomers!
